How much should I pay for a CCW Class?

First, let us review the requirements for obtaining your CCW permit in Wisconsin are clearly outlined on the Wisconsin DOJ Website. Here are the highlights:

1: You must be 21 years of age or older.

2: You must NOT be prohibited from possessing a firearm under state or federal law.

3: You must NOT have been ordered as a condition of bail or release in a criminal case from possessing a dangerous weapon.

4: You must be a Wisconsin resident (as evidenced by a valid Wisconsin driver's license or ID card), or be active military stationed in Wisconsin.

5: You must provide proof of the firearms training required for a license (i.e. take a specific CCW class from a certified instructor).

These requirements are pretty simple, but some people make a mistake in #5 by choosing the absolutely cheapest class they can find. CCW classes by quality, competent instructors general run around $75-$100 for a 4- or 5-hour class.

There are less competent instructors who will charge you $49.99 and provide you with a 90-minute class, and those instructors are failing you.

The bare minimum class should provide you with the information and confidence that you need to safely carry your concealed weapon while covering the various aspects of carrying (legal, de-escalation, basic marksmanship, etc.). This is a minimum of 4 hours of classroom instruction (with a couple of quick breaks) in order to cover all of this material.

Please don't shortchange yourself, and confirm that you are booking a class with a competent, certified instructor who will spend the time educating you on your Concealed Carry Weapons license and the responsibilities that come with it.
